EMILY J. MURPHY PRIOR

ATTORNEY & CO-MANAGER

Emily J. Murphy Prior is licensed to practice law in Rhode Island, Connecticut, and before the U.S. Supreme Court. Emily's practice focuses on trusts & estates, estate planning, probate and estate settlement, conservation planning, philanthropy, succession planning, and elder law. Emily has worked at Morneau & Murphy since 2000.

 

Emily attended Lincoln School in Providence and went on to Brown University,  graduating with honors in 1991 with a concentration in history of art & architecture and French civilization. Emily began her studies at Northeastern Law School in 1993, when she decided to pursue her law degree and discovered a passion for advocacy.

EMILY'S HISTORY

During her time at Northeastern Law School, Emily completed various enriching internships:

  • Law student clerk in Federal District Court for Judge Mary Lisi

  • Law student advocate for the Rhode Island Public Defender

  • Intern at the private law firm - Heffner & Associates

  • Intern at Edwards & Angell, LLP in the Trust & Estates department

 

After graduation and passing the Rhode Island and Connecticut bars, Emily joined the law firm of Edwards & Angell, LLP as an associate in the Trust & Estates department. After working there for several years, Emily transitioned to her family’s law firm - Morneau & Murphy and is presently co-manager of the Jamestown firm. Emily appreciates the personal nature of her field. She enjoys getting to form a personal relationship with her clients and being able to make a difference in someone’s life. 

 

Emily was a founding member of the Jamestown Education Foundation. Over the years, Emily has served as a board member of Habitat For Humanity for Newport County and the Newport County Fund through the Rhode Island Foundation, and she is currently a member of the board of directors of the Audubon Society of Rhode Island.

 

A  Jamestown resident, Emily has three sons and is involved in her community. When she is not in the office you might find her spending time by the water, playing tennis, and being with her family and lovable dog Abby.
