John B. Murphy is licensed to practice law in Rhode Island. John’s practice focuses on real estate matters, particularly on open-space acquisitions. He has served as an expert witness on real estate issues in numerous Court matters and has been appointed as a Commissioner in partition actions. He is regularly consulted by title insurers and other attorneys on real estate and title questions. John is a co-founder of Morneau & Murphy.
John was born in Providence in 1947. John attended Brown University and graduated in 1969. He then continued his studies at Boston College where he received his law degree and was admitted to the Rhode Island Bar in 1973. He began practicing with the Providence firm DeSano and Thibodeau.
John started a law partnership with his Boston College Law School classmate, John A. Murphy, with offices in Providence and Jamestown. Years later, in 1990, Richard N. Morneau joined the firm, and Morneau & Murphy came into existence.
John is a member of the Rhode Island Bar Association. He has been selected as one of the state’s fifty best attorneys by Rhode Island Monthly.
John enjoys Kayaking, spending time at the beach and hiking the Rhode Island coastline. An avid patron of the arts, he and his wife Jane enjoy attending live theater and concerts. It goes without saying that he loves spending time with his three children and four grandchildren as well!
